Have you heard of infographics?

What a great way to get the message out there...

I don't know about you but I find it really difficlut to take in lots of text on a subject. Sometimes the words and their meanings just won't go into my brain.

Then I saw this article on infographics and it got me thinking: what a great way to get information our there to your market.

Now I can already hear you saying 'yes but how can that help your SEO (search engine optimisation) as Google won't pick up keywords from the graphics'. Good point, but the flip side of the coin is that the style of the information includes links and information that pushes people to your website or blog! Simples!

Want to know more? Then have a look at this infographic about inforgraphics.

Sheep, Rain and More Rain

The Great British Resolve

The weekend before last I spent the whole time with one of my cutest clients - Woolly the Sheep.

Woolly is the Mascot for The Kent County Show which after months and months of planning was held at the Kent Showground. Woolly's job is to get the attention of the general public so that they become aware of the show and what it stands for.

Woolly has a blog, a You Tube Channel and of course he is on Twitter and Facebook.

So,after all of this planning and with 80,000 visitors expected, the week of the Kent County Show arrived. It is mid July. We are all hoping fo sunshine, dry grass and lots of happy people.

Exhibitors arrive from Wednesday onwards. As do the equestrian gang with their massive horseboxes (lorries) and cattle of all shapes and sizes. This was all expected and accomodated for. What was not expected was the viiolent hailstorm on Wednesday night and then persistent heavy rain of Thursday night.

Friday arrived, as did the much anticipate visitors, many with their pre-booked tickets. By 10am the car parks, despite the hard work of the grounds men at the showground, turned into a mud bath. Slippy, slidey and very dangerous. The painful decision had to be made. Shut the gates! No more visitors.

The irony was that we had all been promoting the sale of tickets and the show for months and now people were being turned away.

You can imagine the mayhem and bad feeling. The BBC news quickly appeared and interviewed the Chairman of the Trustees (yes, the show is run by a charity - people who generously donate their time). He explained that the car parks were creating a Health and Safety issue and it was regretable but action had to be taken.

It was interesting as I went around with Woolly visiting stands and events I spoke to lots of people. Most people understood that no one had control over the weather but the greatest acceptance of all came from the agricultural sector who didn;t seem remotely phased. It occured to me then that they are at the mercy of the weather every single day, whatever type of farming they carry out.

To them it was 'just another day'. One lady who I spoke to over lunch said, 'Well, you can't control the weather so you just have to jolly well get on with it!' It was her 49th year of attending the show, so I guess she knew what she was talking about.

On a personal note, I wathed what went on over the 3 days of the show and felt great admiration for the Kent Show Team who faced the complaints, questions and a variety of rantings with grace. My view anyway, for what it's worth.

And, Woolly and I had a great time!

Russell Crowe and Flora Tea

The Power of Social Media

There was great excitement in my office this morning - news came to me that the Gladiator himself, Russell Crowe was sipping a beverage in a pub in Chatham. Just 50 miles or so from where I was sitting!

So, how did I know that? Did someone call me? Did I have a sixth sense? No, Twitter. Kent Online updates me about what is going on in my county at breakneck speed. In the world of PR it pays to know what is going on, as it happens.

PR is all about conversations really. These days it is so much more than just Press Releases. I think they are outdated. A good eye catching article with all of the right keywords within it on a well publicised website or blog is incredibly successful.

So here’s a thing. John took me out this last Saturday morning for a treat! We went to Sara’s Tea Room in Deal where they make and sell sumptuous chocolates of all shapes and flavours. I spotted a menu on the table advertising Floral Teas. Now, I like to try things that are a bit different, so I explored further.

In no time I had ordered what can only be described as an experience in a glass. Green Tea, Lily and Jasmine. Michelle (lovely lady who served us) brought out what looked like a walnut covered in boiling water. She told me to wait a few minutes.

Then it started to happen! In front of my eyes this amazing floral display opened up in my glass and gave me one of the best teas I have had in years – ever had actually!

That was it. I was hooked! So, John and I explored further (by the way, he had a hot chocolate – lightweight!). We found www.floratea.com. As we sat marvelling, other people in the tea rooms started talking about this phenomenon and admiring my new discovery. I loved the fact it was creating it’s own PR!

That night I followed Flora Tea on Twitter and Facebook and told them of my excitement at their product. I put their website on my Facebook and told my 350 friends. Flora Tea tweeted me back and so would have gathered more followers from mine.

On Sunday, I went into Mamma Feelgoods Tea Rooms in Bekesbourne, told them about it and then tweeted the same to Flora Tea, recommending a link-up!

photo43150Today I took my friend Frances into Sara’s to share the experience – and here I am talking about it on my blog!

So what am I saying? The power of social media is underestimated by too many. A simple cup of tea served to right person at the right time, by the right person can mean so much more than the benefit of just that one customer.

So who is taking about you? Are they saying the right thing? Who else are they talking to? Attention to what is going on in your social media is worth a huge amount and it grows and grows. If you do it right, it can be the best investment of time or money that you have ever made.

Flora Tea are getting people talking about them. Are you?

A New Era

Day after my birthday. Still no correspondence from Saga. Also, I have yet to have time to rush off down to the pool to enjoy 'Active Life' swimming! Tsk.

However. Today is a good day for the lovely England fullback Ben Foden who with a bit of help form the equally lovely Una, produced a little Foden. Well done guys! Good to see Twitter working so well. Within 30 mins of Ben's announcement it was trending between 1 and 3 in the UK. Brilliant! Just love Twitter!

On the other end of the Twitter scale I have new recruit @AmyXposurePR who has just created her Twitter account and is tweeting like a budgie on crack. Not much work done today then! Go for it Ames! I broke the #FF rule and asked some unsuspecting followers to join her gang. She is now up to 4. I will report on IMG 9232progress.

I had a great birthday weekend with friends and family who mean so much to me. It's such a busy, manic time at the moment that it did me good to just relax and enjoyt their company. The champagne helped of course. Check me out with my best pals! A picture for every occasion. Well, I am in PR after all!
